A multilingual site that gets found outside Italy too
Two or three real languages, each with its own address, written to be read rather than run through a translator.
The problem
The browser translator will do the rest, people say. Then you read how your service sounds in English and understand why that client stopped replying. And as far as Google is concerned that English page does not exist: there is only one address, in Italian.
Worth considering if today
- You have one address and hope the browser translator covers the rest
- Foreign clients write once and then disappear
- You do not show up in English-language searches
- The language button always sends people back to the home page
What is included
One address per language
Each language gets its own URL and is indexed in its own right instead of disappearing inside the Italian.
Copy written, not translated
The text is born in the language, in the words the reader would use.
Hreflang and metadata
The technical signals that tell search engines which version to show to whom.
A language switch that keeps your place
You move between languages and stay on the page you were on.
Local formats
Currencies, dates and numbers written the way they are written there.
What changes
People searching in their own language find you. And when they arrive they read something written for them, in the words they would use.
See it working
Open, navigable demos, not screenshots. They are demonstration projects: no client was invented to fill this page.
Phases and timing
- Choosing the languages1 day
We decide which markets are actually worth it, looking at where enquiries already come from.
- Structure and copy3-4 days
URLs per language, hreflang and the writing itself.
- Testing1 day
Checking that every version is reachable, consistent and properly declared.
In totalRoughly 5 days more than the same site in a single language.
Practical details
What is not included, what it connects to and the frequent questions: the part worth reading before asking for a quote, opened with one tap.
What is not included
- Ongoing translation of a blog that grows every week
- Customer service in the added languages
What it connects to
- Google Search Console
- Analytics
- The CMS you already use
- DeepL as a working base, never as the delivery
- Google Business Profile
Frequent questions
Is automatic translation not enough?
To understand a page, yes. To sell something on it, no, and as far as Google is concerned that page does not exist anyway, because it has no address of its own.
How many languages are worth doing?
The ones enquiries already come from, plus one bet at most. Five empty languages cost more than two full ones.
Who writes the English or Swedish copy?
I do, and where the text carries weight I have a native speaker read it before publication.
